I'm trying to ftp an ascii file from an aix 4.3.2 system to an os390 mainframe without converting it to ebcidc and keep the carriage return/line feeds in tact. I have tried various combinations of ascii, binary, and ebcdic settings with carriage-control and cr set. I have been unsuccessful to this point. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hello,
one option is to take the file from aix to pc then use 3270 emulation software to upload the file to 390 system.
The IBM 3270/5250 pcom software will do the file conversion for you.

hi,
what do you mean "unsuccessful" ?

the file is no transfered, or it is and
is not correct inside?

The file always makes it to the OS390 box, but it isn't in the format that I need. If I transfer as binary, it keeps it's ascii format but looses the cr/lf. If I transfer as ascii, it keeps the cr/lf but gets converted to ebcdic. I need the file to remain ascii and keep the cr/lf. I thought transferring as ascii with carriage-control and cr flags set, but it doesn't.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

hi, try this:

go at one windox box run totepad and edit a file as

AAAAA
BBBBB
CCCCC

Save it on a floppy as TRY1.TXT

Go at AIX box

cd /tmp
dosread TRY1.TXT .
ftp OS390
binary
put TRY1.TXT
bye

Do you see file correctly on 390 ?

Hi!

Can anybody tell me, how can the file be converted in binary mode (I mean the extraction of LF-s)? As far as I know, the binary mode is for CHANGELESS transfer. Or it is not true?
