Hello,
I am trying to receive files, around 50-75MBs from clients via ftp. However, when they send, they many times get a connection timeout error.
How can we fix this?
Where can I found out more?
Are there other options for large file transfer without ftp?

There are many ways of transfering files, ftp is probably the least secure of them all...

What ftp client are you using? Are the timeouts happening up front or after the transfer has started? If they're happening at the beginning try connecting as a passive client.

Hi Lawnboy,

Timeout are occuring during transfer. We've set the max time on the ftp client application. We use smartftp. Any ideas? The client says the transfer large file via other peoples ftp servers without difficulties, just our, at least so they claim.

Our server is actually a host from 1and1.com webhost.

Any ideas? Any other cost effective options for large filee transfers as well?

Can you, from somewhere other than the client's site, upload to that server without issue? If not, take the problem to your host.

If yes, the problem gets ugly. There could be a bad router somewhere between your client and your host. I'd run a series of trace routes from the client's site to the server to see if any hop was flakey.
