Can anyone recommend a programme i can use to connect to my ftp Host other than using the frontpage one.

The reason i'm looking for this is that there seems to be no way in FP2002 to view online files and no easy way to import an individual specific file. Also my host doesn't have a control panel where you can view and administer my files !!!! Very annoying !!

I'd be very grateful if anyone can help because this is beginning to drive me nuts !! :)

Many Thanks

Terry

You can open up your web via FP 2002 by going to File - Open web & typing in & this will open up the files on your web site. And then you can copy them (CNTL-C) and go to another open FP & where your local web site it, Paste the files (CNTL-V) there. Or on the web site ( you can publish to your local computer.

If you have IE 6.0 - you can access your website that way. First, on IE> - Go to tools - internet options & under the advanced tab, enable folder view for FTP Sites. And hit apply & OK. And then in the address bar, type in ftp:// & it should ask you for your user name / password. You can copy & paste here as well.

If you paste things into FP without going thru FP, you should do a Tools - Recalculate Hyperlinks first.

There are also many third-party FTP clients, many of them free. I use WS-FTP, one of the most popular. I think it's $35-$40 for single license. It has an explorer type interface - local web on the left and live web on the right - where you can navigate and point and click to upload/download files. It also has scripting and scheduling for uploads, but I don't use those features.

My web hosting service does not have FP extensions so FTP is the only way to publish my site.

I like it because I can navigate around the whole site and keep it cleaned up easliy.

I didn't realise you a FP site could be hosted if the host didn't have FP Extensions. Is that possible then ?

TC123UK, I do not understand your question. Are you producing pages with names like "pagename.fp"? If so, they will have many limitations. Browsers need extensions like .asp and .cfm to understand complex pages.

I have used Frontpage for several months and it lets me choose the extension. I have never seen a page with the .fp extension. However, Frontpage is somewhat hard to learn. Perhaps there is a setting that forces all pages to have an .fp extension, and I am unaware of this setting. That is possible.

I usually create a page by copy and pasting an old page. Then I rename it. On the rare occasions when I have created a totally new page, FP gave it the ".htm" extension. Of course you can rename that later.

OhioSteve - frontpage extensions is what allows you to connnect to the server via FP. And they are what allows you to run forms, & other web bots that front page creates. It is not a file extension.

For more information on how a frontpage web work in conjunction with FP:

Oops! I guess I misunderstood. I will check out the links you gave me.

The only reason i got hosting with fp extensions was because of the forms on my site. But its good to see such a healthy debate :)

Does anyone have more information about publishing to an IIs 5.0/ Win2K server via FPSE 2000? I've been trying for over a year to get my server to use them with no success. I'm not stupid, but every walkthrough has left out something. Everytime I setup a web and extend it, FP says it can't connect to the web because it doesn't exist. I do a "Check Server Extentions" on the server and it says everything's fine. What's up?!
