Hey all.

We are just having a bit of a play with a Windows 2003 Server in a bid to start learning how to use it. We have successfully set up several domains which are working correctly (serving pages on the Internet etc), but are having a hell of a time trying to get the ftp sites running. What we would like to be able to do is to have an ftp site for each domain, preferably using the same addresses (i.e. would have ftp access on ftp.thesite.com). How do we go about this? Do we need to register extra ftp addresses?

Regards.

Steve.

FYI: Our server only has 1 IP address.

If you have access to the DNS settings for each domain, just create a new host/pointer to point at the server.

Thank you for your help. I don't believe we have direct access to the domains. Whenever we create a new domain it is pointed at our server for us. But we'll take a look into it.

Thanks again.

Steve.

the ftp service doesn't really care about the domain name, it responds just on the IP address. So, make sure that the domain that you are working with resolves ftp.domainname.com to the IP that you want it to point at locally. (a lot of DNS servers use wildcards, so FTP, or whatever.domainname.com might already resolve to the sites registered IP)
