I have an FTP account and I do not want users to use it as an telnet account as well.

I am running HP UX 11.0 on Lclass machines and I Have done the following and it does not seem to work.

I have created the file ftpusers and in /etc/ftpd/and put the username in it but still it allows FTP am I missing something. I have added the account from SAM with the shell as csh I did change it to rsh but still does not work.

any help is greatly appreciated BTW the permissions for the file is read for all and owner is root:bin.

prem.

Set the users shell to be "/bin/false". They will still be able to ftp in, but will not have the ability to use telnet. It will complain with "no shell" and log the user out.

Hi JXmac18,

But when I do that it generates a core dump, So this is what I did in the shell's place I put a nologin entry and in /etc/shells file I put an entry for nologin it works just fine.
