Hi!
I have a SUN robot and its managed by net backup.
I have tapes in different pools and some are active and 2 are frozen for over a week (Q391L1 and Q392L1) , and the tapes Q432L1 to Q437L1 were availave for usage, mas today i found them frozen with no data inside them.

I forgot to say that i did the unfreeze they are not unfrozen , but i'm not sure if they will stay that way until tomorrow :S

Try labelling the tapes after you have unfrozen them. If the tape has been used for catalog backups in the past, you will have to relabelled the tapes. Make sure you uncheck the part with 'verify media label before performing operation'. You should be able to see this by looking at your backup jobs and seeing why those tapes were frozen in the first place.

Netbackup has frozen the media on mount, this can happen for a couple of reasons.

1. There is an old format, the media were written to using another backup software. If so then tar something to the media manually and the add ALLOW_MEDIA_OVERWRITE = TAR to the bp.conf file.

2. As EnochChum pointed out, it could be an old NBU DB tape. You can mount the media and issue a bprecover -l -tpath <drive-path> to find out.

3. There was an issue during mount and NBU blamed the media and not the robot. You can use ../volmgr/bin/robtest to try and mount the media manually and see if you get sense code errors.

I solved it already , but in my case the tapes were frozen because i was trying to unfreeze the wrong media server, after running a repot on netback i found that out
Rgds
