Hi guys, I have a few Windows 2003 servers at Service Pack 1. Installed is Legato Networker 7.x on the servers and the backend is to VMS machines.

The problem I've been getting is that backups start off okay, but randomly freeze. There does not appear to be any rhyme or rythm to where the freeze can take place. Sometimes on small files, sometimes on big files.

Pressing Ctrl+C sometimes allows the backups to continue and other times the backup terminates.

As usual EMC have been less than helpful, so I was wondering if any of you guys have come across this problem or something similar?

I've tried running a manual backup with the debug options (-D2) and piping out the results to a text file for EMC to look at, but the pipe command does not work.

I thought the networkr.log file could capture the details, but this is not picking up anything.

Can anybody help?

hi josephk73, i think that your problem maybe due to network problem.

Check you have only one entry in your DNS for the machine and the reverse name resolution is enabled.

When you say VMS machines are you referring to virtual machines??.

If you are using virtual machines check that the vmware-tools are working correctly. I had a virtual machine that if the vmware-tools don't work correctly the backup never finished successfully.

I hope that helps

regards

Hi mahalingam1,

Thanks for that. Will check and let you know how I get on.

Cheers,

Ken
