Hi all,

I understood that FPSE (FrontPage Server Extensions) 2002 were backwards compatible. However, I also read somewhere that one had to also have FPSE 2000 for the FP 2000 clients. Is this true?

I am asking because we seem to have issues when our FP 2000 clients attempt to login to there subwebs on our main website. They get the following error, "The folder ' isn't accessible. The folder may be located on anunavailable volume or protected with a password."

I have checked everything from the network side to all the permissions on the server, etc.. to no avail. This leads me to think that I may have to put the old SEs back on the web server, however, I tried that once and it essentially blew up most of the subwebs. Is there a better way or are we missing something critical? We are running a WIN 2K server w/ IIS 5.0 and FPSE 2002 (all the latest updates).

Thanks enormously!

You are correct about being backwards compatible, but FP XP tightens the security on the sub-webs ( I have not used this type of security feature but if I remember correctly, you can have 2000 & 2002 extensions on your server.

It will probably blow out the sub-webs as you stated:

Another thing, have you tried to create the subweb via the web browser? I know that I used to could create the sub-webs just by publishing but now I create the subwebs via the browser because that is how my hosting company wants me to set it up. It is easy enough & this might also be where the problem is.

Hi Corey,

Thanks for responding to me post. I had come across a few with a similar question as this but there were no responses so it didn't help. Yes, I do now create new subwebs via the Browswer Admin tool because it is such a nice way to admin the site. I also add, modify, and remove users, etc... It is just that the older sites are not working as consistently in terms of logins and now I am convinced that I should have the older SEs on the server. However, I am hesitent now that I am going to migrate to Server 2003 in the next few months. I will think about what I should do next. Thanks again for your response. It was very helpful to me.
