We are trying to use the Search feature on our website that comes with FrontPage. Supposedly we set it up correctly, but the Index Server Searches were returning IDQ Code instead of Search results. I've followed the instructions on how to fix this ( but now I'm getting a HTTP 401 error message as a search result.

HTTP Error 401
401.3 Unauthorized: Unauthorized due to ACL on resource

This error indicates that the credentials passed by the client do not have access to the particular resource on the server. This resource could be either the page or file listed in the address line of the client, or it could be another file on the server that is needed to process the file listed on the address line of the client.

Please make a note of the entire address you were trying to access and then contact the Web server's administrator to verify that you have permission to access the requested resource.

What should the permissions settings be on these pages to correctly use the Search feature? Read and Execute for Everybody? I've made progress, but it's still not fixed, any ideas?

Hi MarkSL
what server are you connecting to and how are you connecting?

If you can help, GREAT
If I can help, EVEN BETTER

Its' IIS and I'm connecting over HTTP. Thanks.

Hi,
i'm sure the search page will need read and execute permissions for all users. Check the group permissions. As a final check try creting another search page in a different directory. Are the FP Extensions installed correctly?

If you can help, GREAT
If I can help, EVEN BETTER

Extensions are installed. Let me look again at the permissions to double-check them.

Try running recalculate hyperlinks. Sometimes the indexes become corrupted, and this may correct it.

Hi - I just recently published a fp web that also used fp's search features that didn't work. The Solution that worked for us .... Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 201524 ... Configure your FrontPage Server to use WAIS Search Instead of Index Server, the link is

[LN];201524

We set WAIS available for a specific web site vs all web sites on the server.

Hope this helps!
