I have this huge database that I want to have accessable via a webpage for all of my friends.

I would like them to enter in criteria via drop down menus which would produce a list. And if they were to click on an item in the list, a new window would pop open with the description. Well, at least that's what I'm hoping it will do.

However, I have no clue how to get this to work. I'm not too proficient with programing languages, but I'm not even sure where to start.

Any hints or starting points?

Thanks!!!

It is always tough to know where to begin.. but I would point you in a few directions to see how your mind begins to total all the relevant items you think a site would need. Firstly, how well managed is your current database, is it normalised well enough to not cause problems later when things get complicated?

If not, or you are unsure what Access can do, then I would recommend reading and going in that direction first.

If you feel comfortable and have that itch to see results before reading, then I would take a gentle walk through the database capabilties of what frontpage can do in simple displaying of tables and queries to become familiar. It will help utilising the Query's you make in Access to see the code in frontpage put to use and gradually you will become familiar with what is possible.

The learning curve isn't hard, but it is a long one... don't rush things and you'll find you have understood more than you know. Firstly though, ensure your relationships in your DB are good enough and it is reasoanbly normalised enough to get into the Frontpage scene. Else you could simply start with Frontpage and completely build a new database within Frontpage and never open Access again.
