I am keeping an old backup server, but disposing of the tape library. I will now use an external tape drive for restore requests from it. How should I go about this? Will it work? System info below:

Sun Ultra 60 with Solaris 2.6
NetBackup Datacenter 4.5

Old library:
ATL 3500 with 2 DLT 7000

New Drive:
Quantum DLT 7000 external

Thanks,
Scott

Generally - Hardware is not the issue. It is the tape format. We have tapes from our remote sites stored centrally and all restores are handled from here even though the backups are done at the site. The tape drives are different in many of the cases but the format is the same i.e. LTO gen1, LTO Gen2, DLT etc.
