I use asus motherboard P4S533-X with onboard audio controller. For nearly one month,I have been having problems with distorted sounds from the speakers
I have changed the speakers twice and still same problem but if I restart the system, the sounds works fine but after sometime,it gets back to its distorted sounds
It is really driving me crazy;any idea

Do the speakers sound distorted no matter which source creates the sound, i.e., Windows, sound files, online sound, CD audio, etc.?

All the sources listed creates distorted sounds but as I said,if I reboot the workstation, the sounds comes back normal but after some time, the distort comes back;this is strange
The workstation is running win2k with serv Pack4 and all critical updates installed.
I have noticed that the user can atimes keep over 1000 emails without deleting unwanted emails; and those that will be deleted, will be left in the deleted folder of his outlook 2k
I noticed that he has configured incoming emails for the sounds
I run mbsacli.exe this morning and found that office products installed needs updates so I will go ahead and perform all the updates but any idea will be appreciated

Borrow a sound card and install it to see if this solves the problem. If it does, the audio hardware on the mobo is bad.

you could also uninstall the sound card drivers and install the latest ones for that sound card.

I forget to mention that you could go to the sound card mfgr website and see if there is any mention of this same prob in the faq or other support sections.
There may be info on this and also patches, etc.
