I have just yesterday upgraded my pc. Builing it myself, I compiled a MSI K8N Neo2 nForce3, AMD 64 3500, 1024mb PC3200 DUAL RAM, SATA 80gb hd.

I have flashed bios to newest so it is able to bootup from the sata drive which was my first problem.

Now, my computer freqently freezes in games and in windows. Yesterday it froze 50% more than today however and playing games was just unplayable. Now, after doing nothing it freezes less but still freezes for a few seconds now andn then (around 20-30 secs duration when it freezes).

I have tried setting the RAM mhz speed to 200 and Tx2 so 400mhz for PC320o (ddr400) but same problem. (did this in bios)

..............

Also while in games, I have flashes of white or some colour every so often around the edges of my screen (like my desktop is seeping through when you get an msn msg and you click the game and it pulls you to the desktop) ... I have a Geforce 4 ti4600 (agp 4x setting, on a mobo that can support agp 8x). I tried the newest Forceware drivers from (72.xx i think) then i tried older versions with the same problem. I did NOT have this problem with my old mobo and I was using the same GFX.. I have only upgraded my RAM/MOBO/CPU/-addition sata hd- .

Any help would be gladly appreciated.

Windows XP Sp2
Geforce 4 ti4600 (67.03 driver)
Direct X 9.0c
MSI K8N neo2 Platinium nForce3 mobo
AMD 64 3500+
1024 DUAL pc3200 (ddr400) RAM
IDE 40gb HD
SATA 80gb hd *windows and boot drive*
ADSL 512kb

Also when windows loadsup, i have alrdy any startup items, yet it shall pause for about 1-2 misn after loading then shalll load up the windwos update (sp2 thing) and msn. - IT is set to NOT automatic update -.

During that pause nothing will load.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ControlSession Manager\Memory Management

The "Controlsession manager" is not found in that section in regdedit32.exe

Hi there,

what is your AGP Aperture size in the BIOS? Set it to 128mb...

Set your RAM timing, in the BIOS, to AUTO or BY SPF...

Set your Virtual Mem to a fixed size of 1.5x your installed Mem (in your case to 1536mb)...

Set your IP adress to (Networkconnection) to a static form, ie. set it yourself and don't have XP looking for a domain...

Help us to help you by providing some feedback on our suggestions so we know that you at least tried them.

At any rate, have you scanned for a virus or malware?

The 80GB hd is SATA, 40gb (maxtor) is IDE conected.

Two things stand out to me:

Memory in slots 1 and 3. See the Recommended Memory Combination List at

For this combination at DDR400, the page recommends only single-sided memory (assuming that DIMM1-4 on this page corresponds to the Memory Slots 1-4 in your listing above). Does your memory conform to this?

Apache.exe. What is this? Apache server? Maybe try running without that.

They are installed correctly - double sided :)

NO idea what apache.exe is :p

I have tried unplugging the cd/dvd/extra hdd/floppy power cables to see if it was a power usage problem, but it aint.

Ok I formated, removed sata drive and tried on my IDE hd ... still same problem .. tried WITHOUT SP2 ... still problems with sp 1.a

Jesus christ what is it :((
Any help pls

Hi there, what RAM (manufacturer) are you using?

there may be an incompatibility there...

Ok my computer ONLY freezes in games now, as soon as i get into ANY game I get flashing lights then it will crash after a while - is this due to my gfx and will buying a new one fix it, or do nothing ?

Is my chipsett nForce 3 250 doing something wrong (like old Via chipset, u had to use rivatuner to tweak some AGP settings so your gfx card will actually work) ??

Is my power supply too low ... Output 350watt and on the power supply case it says "Tsun ML Model: LC-B350ATX"

Will buying a new GFX fix all these problems, or wont it ?

Thank you.

P.S my adsl modem blown some how (thunder christmas night) so im on a dial up modem atm lol.. all else is working fine including USB ports, just ADSL modem wont work - new onel on its way.

Also every since the installation of my new components - I have a beat in my speakers i.e a footstep noise that constantly does beats every 1 second (like footsteps walking) ..

I have disabled the onboard sound card but still dont see what is causing this ... if i turn speaker volume up the footstep beat gets louder aswell ..

---
I ran 3dMark 2001, first tiem it crashed second time ran all the way through and I recieved 13000 aprox marks .. Dont understand how games can work now and then, and other times they crash and computer crashes. - all the time the flashing lights appear.

Hola,

well you're not the only one that has probs with the nForce3 chipset... do a google search...

what order of installation have you gone through? try reinstalling (repair) WinXP+SP2 and then install the Chipset Drivers (newest ones available)... btw what version of XP (32bit or 64bit) are you using?
