Hi,
In thread480-1465839 it was mentioned that it is possible to purge a saveset id from the Index database. but that does not free up space on tape ie. VTL. Is there a way to purge the dataspace from an aborted session? Thanks in advance for any help.
John.

Purging just refers to the CFI - it does delete the file index info but does not touch the save set data. If you want to do that, you must delete the save set itself:

nsrmm -d -S ssid/cloneid

Hey 605, you are the best. Thanks for the info., but I am wondering if that is a good thing to use on Physical tapes. Doesn't that fracture the data that is stored on the tape? Will Networker make good use of the space? It makes since to use this on my VTL, but now I have notice that several PTL volumes have cloned "aborted" session stored on them. This is my long term storage so I do not really want to have aborted sessions on tape. Thanks in advance for your advice.

You can not physically delete a save set in the middle of a tape and especially not if its data is multiplexed with others. If you really want to do that, you must migrate (stage) all other save sets to another media.

Aborted clone sessions on tapes are bad because if you restart the process, NW will now ask for a new media from that pool. This is because NW may only have one reference of a save set per media.

If you want to free the space on the tape clone the good sessions to an empty tape and relabel the old one.

e.g
mminfo -r "ssid" -q "volume=myTapeVolumeName, ! incomplete"> output.txt
nsrclone -b "Default Clone" -S -f output.txt

You only need a writable Tape in pool "Default Clone
