i have picked up microbillsys, a spyware, i am trying to find a free spyware removel programme, anyone out got any sugestions

Download avg anti spyware from the link below. After it is installed, go to scanner, then settings. Set default action for detected malware to delete (click on the blue words). Do a complete system scan and delete anything it finds.

(make sure it says avg anti spyware before you download it)

once done, download hijackthis from the link below. Choose do a system scan and save a logfile. Post the logfile on here and do not attempt to fix anything on it unless you know what your doing.

Unfortunately, 411-spyware is one of the many spyware sites that pimp spyware utilities:

You can easily detect MicroBillSys with SpyHunter’s FREE spyware scanner. If you’re really infected with MicroBillSys, you can purchase the full-version of SpyHunter to remove MicroBillSys and other spyware, adware, tracking cookies, and more.

So, their product will remove your problem, but not for free. This is a problem I faced when one of my users downloaded & installed MalwareAlarm...I needed a factual resource so I came here, as most first-page Google hits are really ads for spyware removers that I've never heard about. While I'm not saying SpyHunter is malware, it's certainly being marketed in a surreptitious way.

I had excellent results with my default set of free apps, Adaware2007, SpybotS&D, A-squared Free, AVG-AS Free, TrendMicro's HouseCall, and Spyware Blaster. The infection has been removed, and I didn't need to buy a thing.

wahnula,

I think I read somewhere (can't remember if here or not) that SpyHunter was at one time more a form of AdWare, but that in recent times, the company had "changed its ways."

I'm not sure where I read it right now, but it was in a forum thread if I'm not mistaken. Even though, there were some doubts posted in the same thread, and I personally don't get any good fuzzy feelings with using a program that USED to be adware ridden.

Good for you, I feel the same. The way I look at it, there is so much good free Anti-Spyware out there, and usually no one scanner can detect everything, so why not take advantage of the multiple good free programs? I would be greatly upset if I PAID for something only to have it miss an exploit. According to reviews I have read, some are better than others, but they all miss things.

Just wanted to comment on Spybot S&D and free Ad-aware.
I've used spybot for about 5 years, as well as free adaware. And like tony, i use trend micro house call and free AVG. On the hardware side I have a simple dlink 11b router with the new version cable modem. I haven't had any problems with viruses or spyware so I wonder about an article that I've read in PC World.

My comment is this. Lately for about the last year, when I run S&D, most of the time it finds 0 problems. I'm not sure if it is because the immunization database is so effective or that it just isn't finding any modern type bugs. Kind of the same thing with Ad-aware, it just finds some benign cookies.

My concern, although they seem to work for me well, but I don't go to porn or gaming sites) is that in a PC World article (about 5 or 6 months ago) it rated Spybot and free Adaware along with the other 8 or so $29 range antispyware products available. It placed spybot and free adaware in the last 2 places as being about 10-20% effective overall. It said that while these respected programs have served well in the past and were held in high esteem by many users, they just don't have what it takes to scan and find the nasty stuff floating around these days. (my words)

what say you all ?
thx

That is pretty much right on in my opinion. Adaware I do not even use anymore due to their new program. It lacks many options the old one had. Spybot I still use and it finds things, but its not as good as avg anti spyware. I mainly rely of avg anti spyware and the original ewido.

Yes I still use ewido, It still finds things the others dont at times. Wished that program was still around.

Anyway I use a mix of different things, I use antivir anti virus, avg anti spyware, ewido, ccleaner, housecall, and other programs depending on what type of infection they have.

Since pechenegs is back, hopefully he will see this. As he can give you far more info than I can. No offense to anyone else here but hes the virus/spyware guru in my opinion lol.
