Free-Hand SQL problem

I try to run a SQL statement which plugs directly into my DB. However, after about 5 minutes, the BO displays nothing but the 'analyzing' message. The progress bar moves about two notches and then the display screen asking me if I want to create a new report and what type of report comes up again, with no data in the background.

How do I fix this?
The SQL stmt works fine in SQL navigator.

Anybody experience this problem before?

Can't say I do, but what happens with a simple query?
Something like : Select * from table

Did the DBA set a limit on the database for query-time?
