Hello,

I'm new to Framemaker, and am getting ready to purchase the software solely for the purpose of writing self help books. Would the "authoring enhancements" of 7.0 be particularly useful for my purpose, or would I be served just as well by 6.0? Any input is appreciated. Scott

Scott,

If you are intending to use Framemaker just for print or pdf then Version 6 will suit you fine. Version 7 bought together the 2 flavours of version 6, the standard version and the SGML version.

Hi

If u use xml coding for ur book then u have to use FrameMaker7.0 else U can do ur work using frameMaker6.0

FM7 has all the functionality of FM6 (including saveAs FM6 binary format). In addition it has much more (Structured Authoring, XML, bug fixes, working SaveAs PDF...). Unless purchasing FM6 is going to save you a ton of money, opt for the increased feature potential of FM7 (even if you not going to use it right away).

Thanks to the three of you for your help - I'm going to get FM 7. Scott
