I will soon be supporting an application developed in Visual Foxpro 9.0 and I am looking for a good reference manual (hardcopy). I see Foxpro 6.0 reference manuals on the web but nothing for 9.0.

I am an experienced programmer and have done extensive development in MS Access as well as some VB but never in Foxpro. Does anyone have any ideas as to the learning curve involved?

Thanks in advance for any advice you may offer.

I'm afraid it's quite big. FoxPro is an enormous product, and one that has grown considerably over the years. You have the advantage of being an experienced programmer, and also that you will be working with existing code. Even so, be prepared to put some effort into learning the language.

You can find some book recommendations on my web site (see To be honest, none of them is really ideal for a beginner.

As you've found, the last "official" reference manual to appear in print was for VFP 6.0; the product has changed a lot since then. For VPP 9.0, the manual is the help file. In fact, that's probably the best reference source you'll find.

The only other advice I can give is to search around for VFP-related websites. There are plenty of sites that contain articles, advice and tips (I have a lot of VFP-articles on my own site, but it's just one of many). And be sure to visit this forum reguarly, where you can get answers to specific questions.

Good luck with the project.

Mike
