Hello,
I have a very general question as a user of FoxBase and FoxPro for years. Are there any application development languages available for the MacIntosh that combine the ease of database manipulation, the intuitive and high-level language syntax (as opposed to C++ or similar languages!), and the power and execution speed of FoxPro? Thank you very much for any helpful advice you may offer.

Visual Foxpro 3 was available in a Mac version. I don't know if you can still get it. My Mac friends swear by Filemaker Pro. My few experiences with it left me swearing at it, however.

Hi Robert,

I've been an avid mac-user for years, and have used both FoxBase+ and FoxPro for Mac for various jobs.
FoxBase+ is my favourite in terms of performance, but has some limitations that clearly say '1991' ; FoxPro left me with mixed feelings because of stability issues, which were resolved after upgrading to version 2.6 (as someone put it: "Avoid version 2.5 like the plague")

Microsoft neither sells nor supports Fox-programs on the Mac platform.
However, there might be some available on eBay, or at:

If you're looking for a way to reuse your old source code, beware of the cross-platform transporting pitfalls ; it took us quite some time to turn the standard transporter into something which was actually a helping hand.

As for FileMaker ; well the lack of a serious programming language is what I found most disturbing.
A major plus, however, is the ease with which you can quickly deploy a web-enabled solution.

Best regards,

Jan Schenkel.

Thank you for the responses. What about a language other than FoxPro? I would be grateful for any comments about other languages that might share the positive features I've found in FoxPro.
