I have a wierd problem where I fire up a foxpro dos session from Windows NT4 SP3 and when Foxpro starts, my used RAM goes from 23MB to 74MB.
Upgraded the server to 128MB RAM, no when starting Foxpro it jumps to 124MB used....
Anyone know what's going on??

-P

I don't have FPD available to me to test this, but try setting MEMLIMIT in your CONFIG.FP file.
Robert Bradley

<a href= - Visual FoxPro Development
In your statement you said "when foxpro starts, my used RAM" then you said "Upgraded the server to 128MB RAM"

1. On what computer are you starting foxpro on, a workstation or the server.?
2. Which DOS EXE are you starting fox.exe, foxpro.exe, or foxprox.exe?
David W. Grewe
Dave@internationalbid.net

This problem occurs if running foxpro on the server running NT4 SP3. The server is sitting at about 98MB free (physical RAM) but this drops basically to zero when foxpro is run.

It happens when using the Foxpro X exexcutable, or a compiled foxpro dos program from our POS vendor (pospro.exe)

Basically it is the NTVDM.EXE that is gobbling the memory (virtual dos machine?) it jumps up to about 80MB or more when foxpro is running.
Any ideas?

-P

Looks like the solution is in your answer. If at all possible do not run FoxPro on the server. Run it application from a workstation and leave the data on the server.

I also recommend you check you memlimit commands like Robert suggested. If you need help setting you the config.fp file, from the fox command window run help and look from configuring foxpro at the top of the help section.

David W.
