We are running our (computer) business on an accounting application written in FoxPro 2.5 for DOS. We need to upgrade our office PCs to Windows 2000... can't get the app to run. The software developer disappeared about 3 years ago and there was no escrow source code. We can't find anyone locally who knows the answer. Any suggestions would be appreciated... we would prefer to continue using the accounting app.. is is called Ledgers. I can be reached directly at eheere@amsys.net or at (203) 431-1500. Thanks, Ed Heere

What error messages are you getting?

Does the app begin to start and then fall over?

Do you run the app from an Icon, and if so, does the same
happen when you run the app from the DOS prompt?

What level of help/support? are you looking for?

Any more info would be appreciated..

If I try to run fox.exe from a command prompt in the directory where fox.exe and foxdx250.esl reside I get a message "cannot locate the desired version of foxpro". If I try from a batch file, icon or any other means I get the same results.

I guess the first thing I need to know is the answer to the general question, "does FoxPro 2.5 for DOS run in the Windows 2000 environment"? If so, is there a quick setting to make it work or is this a complex issue which requires analysis and development work?

The directory includes the following files:
fox.exe (10,606)
foxdx250.esl (1,349,444)
foxuser.dbf (332)
foxuser.fpt (576)
config.fp (84)

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cannot locate the desired version of Foxpro:-

This is usually one of two possibs:-
There should be 3 support libraries within the directory where Fox.exe is:-

FOXDX250.ESL
FOXD2500.ESL
FOXD2500.ESO

all 3 are usually needed to run a Foxpro Executable without the Foxpro Software.

Secondly, although less likely, you could try re-installing Foxpro 2.5 for DOS as it possible that the Fox.exe file has become corrupted.

If you have the APP file with the exe you could try running the APP from within a DOS Batch File using an alternative executable FOXPROX.EXE. See if this file exists and if so
set up a DOS Batch File called MYAPP.BAT which has inside
FOXPROX -T MYAPP.

As for Foxpro for DOS 2.5 running under Windows 2000, I do not know if there are problems with this but certainly Foxpro DOS 2.6 for DOS can run under W2000.

Keep in Touch.

We run Foxpro 2.6 for DOS here in Win2k/ME without a hitch. Our applications work in Whistler as well. Sounds like an environment problem. Check to see if you have set the working directory to where the fox.exe is.
