Found.000 folder

I have windows xp pro on my comp.
I just noticed yesterday that in C drive there are two new folders. One is called FOUND.000 and FOUND.001 and each one has a system file which is called FOUND.000.
The files were created on the 19th dec.
What are these files and is it ok to delete them.

A bit more information, the folders and their files are created/saved by chkdsk that runs after a bad shutdown. They're similar to the older "file0000.chk" we were used to seeing with Win9x. Usually there's nothing in them worth saving but once in awhile there may be a clue as to what program they belonged with.
