WE have a BCM 400 with version 4.0. Our carrier is VCOM and using 23(24) channels on a T1.

We want the ability for Caller ID of the originating call to get sent out when Forwarding from the desk phone to a user's external cell phone. For example, John Doe from 415-555-1234 calls my direct number. When I have call forwarding enabled to my cell phone, I want to see JOhn Doe's 415-555-1234 on my cell phone when it rings. Currently, it shows the main number of the office.

I searched here and I did not see this answered for the BCM400, but it looks like some of the other systems support this functionalty as long as the carrier does not stomp on the caller ID sent from the system. Does anyone know if that is true for the BCM400? If so, are there config settings that make this work?

It is the carrier that is blocking it. A BCM will automatically try to pass the caller id.

The BCM is doing what it is supposed to. You answer a call with the CLID of the caller, you are grabing another line in the BCM to dial out. It is sending the CLID of the line you are using to call out on.

I understand that the BCM is designed to send the CLID ID of the line you are using on the outgoing; but other systems seem to be configurable (i.e., have more than one method of handling this based on a config setting).

It does not seem too difficult to write some code that looks at the situation and says, "this is a fowarded call from an external number to another external number, so I'll put the originator caller ID into the outgoing CLID data packet (because there is a config option that requests this feature).

I have conflicting information on whether this option exists for the BCM 400v4 and am trying to get a definitive answer on this.

cook and blue have differnt answers, I'm not 100% sure, but I believe cook is right. The BCM does not have a choice of resending the incoming CLID, it is going to make another call and then connect that with incoming call. It will send the CLID of the outgoing call.

Adversity is Opportunity

No offense, but i'm 100% sure it is capable of passing caller id. I have done it many times. Sometimes you have to work with the carrier so they will allow an outbound call with a caller id thats different than any numbers on the PRI. There's a setting under resources I think, forward redirected OLI.

Looks like this is a VOIP function. We are all digital, so maybe that explains the discrepency? Although I am confused a little bit my the description. I am assuming that the "OLI of the internal telephone" would be the external number the dialed the internal extension?

Forward redirected OLI - If the box is selected, the OLI of an internal telephone is
forwarded over the VoIP trunk when a call is transferred to an external number over the
private VoIP network. If the box is cleared, only the CLID of the transferred call is
forwarded.

You can not do it unless the exchnage permits you to forward on the orignating callers CLID. For you to output this CLID you would have to own this number on the circuit otherwise what would stop you pretending to be some company you are not.
