Forwarded extension 2555 to hunt group 3000. The call rings to hg 3000 but the vm for hg 3000 does not pick up.

I checked for the VM enabled on hg 3000 and it's on.

IP Office 3.2 Embedded VM

It won't follow the vm for that group but for the original destination.
You cannot do this.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Indeed, having a mailbox answer for someone that they didn't ring just confuses people. Nearly every system leaves the message in the original targets mailbox or not at all. Doing otherwise quickly becomes confusing and hard to manage :)

If you really want to leave a message on this huntgroup, there is a solution.

create a new shotcode
*999 (or anything else)
Voicemail Collect
"#name_of_the_huntgroup"

Create a user with forward unconditionnal on, fill the forward number with your shortcode and make sure that forward hunt group calls is checked.

then, create a sequential huntgroup with only this user.

and finally, add this huntgroup to the overflow group list of you huntgroup 3000.

Make sure that the voicemail is off on the "virtual" user and the huntgoup that you just create.
