Ok I just setup a new phone for a user and this may be a really stupid question but how do I got his phone to go to Voice Mail after 3 rings? Right now I have setup his mail box and it is init'ed. His phone just rings when I dial it.

Oh and as well this one baffles me! Most if not all phones in the office have "Line" buttons for outside lines. If he or I dial 9 instead of the "line" button it never seems to dial the number correctly. When I do a F*0 the button reads simply "9" on the screen. Am I missing something here?

Thanks,

James

you need to know the main ext. to the voice mail system. Once you have located that go into capabilities and go to foward no answer and insert the voice mail ext. then chage the rings to 3.
Also as far as you line problem are wanting to do a one touch key if so you need to program the key for feature 68 with 9 also make sure you go into line access and put the line into a pool for this to work.

OK the voice mail think worked fine, thanks! But the Line thing didn't. If I do a F68 I get a blank screen and no sound. If I hit 9 it does nothing, am I missing a step?

Hey, James sorry I gave you the wrong feature code use feature 64 then the 9 you should be ok

Ok that works to pick up a line no problem, but it does the same thing as Intercom, then 9. I have the F64,9 bound to an extra button and when I hit it the display shows the line it has picked up i.e. Line052.

When I hit the "Line" button on my phone it takes about 3 seconds displaying only a 9 on the screen then I get a dial tone. This is the one that works properly. Is there more than one way to access outside lines?

Sorry to be a hassle! Any ideas on why there different?

James maybe I'm miss understanding you do you want to program a line on the phone if so go into terminal and sets go to the particular ext. go to line assignment pick the line you want on that phone. Also let me know what is assign to that phone by doing a f*0 and press every button
and let me know whats on their

Well I figured out what it is. For whatever reason we have to dial a double 9 to access outside lines here. So now my new question is how can I bind an intercom, double 9 to a button, or a F64,9,9? Ideas?

What you are asking is how to program a line pool button; you are also saying that the pool you want to use has been coded to 99. You can confirm this by going to system programming/line pool access codes. To program the button- press feat*3, press the button, press feat6499 (assumming 99 is the code for the appropriate pool). I think feat*3 will do this, but you may have to go into termianls and sets/ button programming.

Well that all makes sense and should work but...

If I do a F64, then 9 as soon as I hit 9 it jumps to a line. If I try to program a button via F3 or Admin it takes the first 9 and closes. I don't get the chance to use a 99. See when we do take a line manually via Intercom then 9 we get a dial tone, we then have to hit 9 AGAIN and get a break then ANOTHER dial tone. The second tone works, the first tone always calls the wrong number, no matter what we put!

Wow is this wack or is this normal for a Norstar system to be like this?

Anyways thanks for the help, if you have anymore ideas let me know!

Ok - it sounds like your line pool access code is 9, not 99. Have you checked you external line access code (this is different from pool). Perhaps it is set to 9 and in conflict with the pool code. Try this; in system programming change the line pool access code to 8. Then do feat648 to a button. For IC to pick a line, make sure your external line code is set to 9 in system programming. You can get around all of it, by setting a handsfree button, and making the prime line for the set the line pool. Then when they press handsfree it will just pick the first available line. When they want to make internal calls they can press ic and dial the DN.

James,
What it sounds like is that your CO lines are CENTREX lines with a centrex outside access code of 9 so what happens when you dial intercom 9 you now have access to the centrex system where you could either dial the centrex extension number of another line or dial 9 to get out of centrex. Most customers don't like dialing 9 two times or cannot understand why we make it more complicated than necessary for them. what I usually do for this is set up routes and tables to bury the 9 ie. set up a route table(usually 001) that dials 9 for your line pool (usually A) then set up a destination code of 9 that uses route 001 absorb all(that is it does not pass the 9 you originally dialed). What would happen is that when you dial intercom 9 the destination code table absorbs the 9 and passes the call to the route table that then selects a line from your pool and dials a 9. at this point you get dial tone back and you can continue dialing like normal. I know this is much more than you originally asked about but you may find it usefull.

I agree with Jerry that your CO lines are Centrex. If the customer would like a button to access an outside line in the Public Network but bury the requirement of dialing two 9's, you can try the following:

Press Feature * 1
Press the button to be programmed.
Press the intercom key.
Enter the Line Pool access code (default is "9" for line pool "A")
Enter the Centrex lead digit, 9 in your case.
Press OK or Hold depending on your set.
Mark the button "Line Out"

Very interesting Bob and your way is shorter to program. I've been doing the same thing except I program it this way:
Press Feature *3
Press the button to be programmed.
Press F649 (for line pool), display shows 'Programmed'
Then...
Press Feature *1
Press the same button used above (for line pool)
Enter the Centrex lead digit.
Press OK.

Yes the programming is shorter your way guys, If you have ATA's, or 7100's the users who have these two styles of phones will still have to dial the extra 9 though. also if you don't want to spend a button (7208's never seems to have enough for the customer), then setting up the rout tables makes it easier for the customer (always keep it simple for the s********* uh..
