Does anyone know whether it is possible to set up forwarding so that the internal caller's extension number is sent as caller id. I know this is not allowed if the caller is external, but when the caller is internal his number is within the range of allowed caller ids.

I've set up the outgiong line shortcode to be [9]N; / Dial / NSE and this does show the caller's extension number as caller id when a call is made to an external number.

But if I forward a phone to an external number preceeded by 9, caller id is always sent as the PBX main number. It's as though the value of "E" is not defined for forwarded calls.

Actually, I think I'm asking two questions in one:

1) Why doesn't E send the caller id of the phone that is doing the fowarding?
2) Is it possible to get hold of the originating internal number so that this can be sent as caller id

Instead of NSE use .
Or NS01234567E and the E is then you extension digits so if your telephone number is 0123456789 with extension 789 then make NS0123456E

You'll never get the extension to show. baz has pointed out how to get the DDI associated with the extension (its just a bit different)

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

What release are you running? I may be able to help.

Have you ever thought of just getting a twinning license? They can be purchased either individually or it groups of 5 now & the send external caller ID as well?

Does the twinning license allow the caller to see the external caller ID?

The twinning license has no effect on showing external Caller ID. This is a function of the line provider; the IP Office provides enough flexibility to set *any* outgoing CLI however you line provider will override any outbound CLI that they don't accept. They usually only accept the base number of the lines and any DDI. Unfortunately, most won't allow you to "pass" the CLI from the external call to the forwarded destination
