I have created a rule that specifies if the selected exchange users name is in the to or cc box it should be forwarded to his external account. It does not work any help with solving this would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any help.

In Outlook. Opened Outlook with his userid. Under tools with rules whizard.

That will then be true for all messages.
You will be better of to create a custom address (the exteranl one) on the server (hide it from the GAL) and put it in his profile as Alternate recipient.

If forwarding from the client doesn't work, you probably turned off 'Allow Automatic Forward'. Go to the properties of your default Internet Message Format in Exchange System Manager, and turn on this option in the tab 'Advanced'.
