hi ho ya'll

I have renumbered adjunct 7306 to extension 123 ( I have not set up a mailbox for 123. I don't need one, unless it has to be there to accomplish what I ask below:

My objective is for any calls to ext. 123 be forwarded to ext. 555 (which does have a mailbox) and is on a users desk.

Is that possible?

thanks!

But won't an internally forwarded number be pulled back to the original extension (in this case 123)? What voicemail do you have? If you have Merlin Messaging, you can forward messages from one mailbox to another automatically. So, you would put a mailbox on x123, record a greeting, and any message left would be sent to x555's mailbox.

Telcomboy Merlin Messaging allows phantom mailboxes that point to another mailbox thus the phantom mailbox 123 would have a destination mailbox 555, then you only need to manage 555's mailbox greetings.

So you'd setup forwarding and phantom mailbox (don't forget to add 123 to voicemail coverage), then calls to 123 would ring at 555, if unanswered, would go to 555's voicemail.

With Phantom Destination, the 123's mailbox greeting plays to the caller, but the incoming message goes into 555's mailbox.

Ok..

I had to:

1. add auth code to phantom number 123
2. enable remote call forwarding on 123
3. enable TrkTransfer on 123
4. dial #80, then authcode, # *33, then ext number to forward to (it was internal 555)
5. add 123 to group 30 coverage

it works....
Seems like it takes a while before going to voice mail though.

Can I change that length of time?

thanks!!!!

I guess you were typing while I was Tommy..

so.... I DO have to have a mailbox set up for the phantom extension (adjunct) or it will not work?

Sorry.. had to post again.
After testing, the messages seem to stay in the phantom mailbox and not get forwarded... or at least if they do, they don't get deleted from the phantom mailbox.

the Phantom mailbox has a class of service 2.

I logged into the phantom mailbox after leaving a message, and it was still there.

I have not logged into the 'forwarded' mailbox (555) as it is a users box.

If you have Class of Service, you have Merlin Mail, and you don't have Phantom Destination as an option. So the messages are going to end up in 123's mailbox.

so is there any way to get calls from 123 to forward to 555 and go to 555's voice mail if there is no answer?

I don't mind using 2 ports if I need to.

Make 123 a single line port, loop it to a line port, assign that line to 555, and make 555 the principal user of that line.

thanks TTT

I'm not sure how to "loop it to a line port"

Loop it to a line port" means make a jumper cable to connect an incoming line port to a T/R extension port, then when the extension is called, the line rings
The jumper cable can be a RJ11,RJ14, or RJ25 on both sides but technically should have an RJ45 on the T/R side.
Only need two wires, straight through, center two contacts on both sides.

ok.. I can try that.
However, is there not a way to do this with groups somehow?
Like put those two lines in a group and have one voicemail box for the group?
Delayed cover, etc? something along those lines?

I thought you were trying to get all calls (including voice mail) from extension 123 to go to extension 555 ?
Do you need more than just extension 555 covering calls to 123? If not, the "loop around" is your best bet, if you do
then you could renumber a group (say 771) to 123, then set up 555 (and whoever else needs to cover) as a member, rolling to voice mail can get tricky depending on ring/cover options, if you use group ring, you'll need to use the "loop around" trick anyway :)

yes.. basically I have one user that needs two phone numbers.

One is an outside DID number that rings to ext. 123
the other is a phone on her desk at ext 555 (internal calls only)

I need both numbers when called to go to her phone (and voicemail) at ext 555

that is all I'm looking to do actually.

just wondered if there was another way besides the 'loop'

If the DID is PRI then you can make a route and avoid the complications.
If the DID is from a 800 DID card then it can only find an extension to match the incoming digits.

I use dial plan to strip it down to the 3 digit extension.
ie: 654-4123 goes to ext 123 (but you all know that already :)
so I just want 123 to get shot over to 555, instead of 123

as long as it will go to 555 voicemail.

can I set up a specific dial plan to route just that extension?

PRI gives you sixteen tables to route numbers, simply use another table to match all incoming digits (4123), digits to delete will be 4, digits to add 555, set service to any. then the call will ring as at 555, and go to 555's voice mail.
It doesn't matter what order you set up your dial plan routing tables, it uses the best match, so if you currently have a table that matches 4 (first digit), a new table matching 4123 (all digits) will be a better match than 4
