I have inherited a formula on a .xlxs spread sheet and am trying to work out what it is doing.

{=Table(,C4)}

It is producing a value.

The Function =Table is not listed in the Excel functions, I have also looked in VB to see if it is a custom function.

If i click on the cell the characters {} dissapear.

I have never seen this before, any help is appreciated.

The { } indicate that it is an ARRAY formula...entered using CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER

Not sure about the Table function...what version of excel?

The 'TABLE' function is a result of what-if analysis (Data>Table), in this case with one parameter.

"...a .xlxs spread sheet ..." seems like Excel 2007.

If you do alt+F11, it will toggle to the VB Editor. Do Edit > Find... and enter Table and Search the Current Project

What do you find?

Thanks All

Ive tried a few of your solutions, but no success.

Im using XL 2007

xlbo - CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER didnt do anything, Do I need to do it in a specific place?

skipVought - VB editor is clear. No code anywhere

combo - how do I go about 'What-if analysis'?

Thanks again

You guys work quick

Just seen HarleyQuinn's post . Ill update you how I get on

Thanks

The data table is one of of analysis tools in excel, in 2007 version: Insert > Table.
The what-if tools - data tables and scenarios.
The advantage of using data tables is single, formula replicated in the table, recalculation is the price (as for array formulas, frequent recalculation. The recalculation of tables can be changed to 'manual' anyway).

When xlhelp saw HarleyQuinn's post a strange sort of vibration ran through his body. There was a strong emotion that propelled him to put in his two cents worth. His hands were itc.... OK, all right, I get carried away sometimes (literally, lol).

The table command usually refers to a formula somewhere in the spreadsheet. When you apply a one input table, you are essentially saying to use the formula that is being reffered to and use C4 as a variable using the numbers in the adjacent column (in this case) or an adjacent row. So, basically everything remains the same in the formula except the value of C4 keeps changing.

I hope that make sense.

Thanks all

Youve pointed me in the right direction
