I created a nice form in Acces figuring I could make it update a tablein the database easily when I was done. Wrong!
Never used acces before but it's Microsoft so I figured I'd be ok. Now I have a nice form with a bunch of pretty text boxes that say "UNBOUND" I read later and found the way I should have done it was to create it and link it to the table and use the tools. So I made another quick form doing it that way but now when I click on the new forms form view the screen is blank. It doesn't show any of the text boxes. What I need to do is make this form or a form that will add new records/rows to the table in the database. At this point I don't need it to do anything else. We are using it to keep track of customer incidents so a customer service rep will fill out this form and teh incident information will be added to the database. Any help wwould be appreciated?
In case that was too easy I'll add this. In my original form I made a command button that I would like to be the trigger to updating the information.

Make sure your form is link to a table that you want to record the data. Check the form properties again. In the text box properties make sure the text box are link to the correct field in the table. You can create a command button to update the record. I hope this will help.

Access is easy , after you've tinkered with it 8 hours a day 5 days a week for about 6 months. So don't get discouraged this early. Eventually it gets fun! After that the need for therapy starts.
Build your table first, then make a form using the wizard. The command button has wizards for record operations too. This should get you started on your way.

Thank you
I found that I didn't have the key record checked as the Identity record whan I created teh table in SQL. Now I can link it correctly. But I will ask more.
Can I make the emptly unbound form I created first link or bind to the table i am using. I would rather use the form I made yesterday instead of the generic one I made with the wizard today. Also, how do I go about making the command button be the trigger to perform the update and clear the form to the next record(ie where is the command button wizard)? Thanks again. This site is awesome.

Yes, if you have your form open close it and reopen it .. else I can never get to form properties. Then under Record source you link it to the tables you want with the criteria to populate your form.

Dear Racer:
Maybe you need to know how to access the property sheet for the form you made yesterday. Open the form in design view, then right click on the upper left square (the one just to the left of the horizontal ruler.) Select Properties, then click. Click the Data tab in the property sheet and make sure that the row "Record Source" has the name of your table in it. God forbid that you should have to redo all that beautiful work from yesterday. Gus,

Thank you. That would have saved the day yesterday of this
morning but I ended up doing even more beautiful work today and recreated the form. At the same time I also had a problem with my table which I created in SQL. (first time doing that also). I checked the ID field as the key but never checked identity so the table would automatically o to the next record so I could enter data. So I had more to learn. But I got an education in Access in a twenty four hour period. Thanks for the help. Always taking suggestions. Even threw a little vb code into a command button wih the help of another tek-tipper.
I'm still staying away from that Crystal reports at all costs. Even if I become fluent in tables, fields, and records.

Well I would like to thank everyone for their input and answers. It helped me greatly. I have had the same problems. I am just learning Access and VB. And, BTW, have worked on it for 40+ hours a week for over a month now. I do not feel that I have made much progress. Everytime I think I have figured out how the relational thing works, I find out that it is not what I thought. I am having to teach myself as I can not afford to pay for training and my employer will not do it for me. Again thank you all. These forums are as big a help as anything I have found.

Thanks,
Don
