Formatting problem with line chart

I have tried to find a solution in both CR XI and CR 2008. Hopefully someone here can help.

I have a report that produces line charts in the group footer. The data currently group into four groups and therefore four charts are produced. The charts show the data points as I expected. The problem is saving the x axis label format and the series line formats so that I do not have to manually fix them every time I run the report. I also want to pass on this report to users so that they can run it using a CR viewer.

The x axis can represent hundreds of data points. I want to set it to show the axis labels but skip 10. Once the report has run and is showing live data, I can do that but in design mode the skip group labels box only allows entries of 0 - 2.

Similarly, each chart can have from four to six series. I want to set each series line to the same thickness and without markers. Again, once the report has run and is showing live data, that can be done manually but in design mode only four series are visible and can be formatted.

Making the changes when the report shows live data and then saving (without data) does not save the settings for the x axis or series five and six for those charts with more than four series.

Any ideas?

Make the changes in preview mode and be sure to check "apply to all group instances"--or whatever it says in the dropdown. Might say "apply to group template"--this is what gets the changes to "take." In design mode, you don't see the actual chart, more of a template only.
