I got a virus over the weekend and decided to format my c drive to solve the problem. I was running windows 98 and had photoshop 7 and illustrator 9 installed on my gateway pc. The evil email worm is gone, BUT we installed windows 2000 professional instead of win 98 and since I reinstalled my adobe software Illustrator has become rediculously slow. I reinstalled it twice and can't understand the problem. I click on "file" and 20 seconds later the scroll down menu appears. Photoshop is running fine, but it did say that it was sharing it's scratchdisk when it opened the first time. I shut all my other programs and illustrator still crawls. Any idea what is going on?

Thanks,

There is a really good chance that the newer operating system is dragging down your system. What type of system do you have? RAM, Processor/Speed...

Were you not using anti-virus software before? ...and now you are? Anti-virus software can also drag a system down a bit.

Your right, my antivirus software wasn't operating properly before. I don't think it was scanning anything really. Now I have norton professional 2003 and it's scanning EVERYTHING.

It's a pretty old machine really. Gateway, pentium 3 processor, 13 gig hard drive, upgraded to 512 ram.

Know what, I uninstalled illustrator 9 and reinstalled illustrator 8 and it's working much better. Still a little slow when moving objects around the page (couple of second delay) but much better! Thanks for the response!
