Does anyone know of it is possible to format a Maxtor One Touch external hard drive using Solaris version9?

Running the format command offers a list of supported drives. Obviously the Maxtor isnt one of these, so 'other' is selected. This then requires the input of serval disk geometry parameters to proceed.

I have had no luck finding these parameters, cylinders, tracks, block size etc.

Is this even possible?

Thanks,

Chris

No it is not. The Maxtor USB External drive only supports FAT, FAT32, and NTFS

Not even of we were able to find the geometry of the disk?

You can give it a try I dont think it would hurt to do that.

We have tried using a Maxtor DaimondMax Plus HDD, 200GB. It ended up with 8GB!
Used the logical geometry from the product spec:

Cylinders - 16383
Heads - 16
Sectors - 63
Bytes per Sector 512
Rotational Speed - 7200

Used default settings for the other parameters.

It does calculate to around 8GB.
However, the actual cylinders (cycles) is 395136, which calculates to about 200GB but this figure cannot be entered as it is out of range.

Any ideas?
