Format command in OEM version?

I just bought a Sony IDE tape drive with the OEM version of B/U Exec. It looks to me like the tapes used in this drive are exactly the same as the ones used in the Ditto Max. I want to try to reformat the Ditto Max tapes, but the Format command is not available on the Tools-Options menu. The documentation says it should be there. <br>

Anyone have any suggestions? I have several Ditto Max tapes that I just don't want to throw away (like I threw away the drive).<br>

Is this due to the fact that the drive does not recognise that there is a tape in there? Does your info say &quot;no media&quot; or &quot;blank media&quot; or what (bottom right hand of screen dependent on version). If it says no media then you cannot do a format!<br>

Try sticking one tape in that came with the Sony (if you got one) and see if you can format that.

When I stick in a Ditto Max tape it says something like, "Please insert Sony SuperStation media". I had messed up one of the Sony tapes by stopping a job in the middle and when I tried to use it again, a message popped up that said, "This tape is not formatted, Click OK to format..." That is the only sign of any format utility that I have seen. There has to be some identification header on the tape that tells it whether or not it's a Sony tape. I wonder if I used one of those electromaganetic tape erasers then put the tape in if it would allow me to format the ditto tapes.<br>

Are the Ditto Max tapes compatable with the Sony SuperStation?<br>

They are the exact same size, shape, etc. But they are not listed as compatible only Sony SuperStation and Aiwa Bolt are interchangeable according to the specs. I am just trying to save myself the pain of having to buy another $100 worth of backup media. My guess is, that since the tapes are visually identical there must be some way to format the Ditto Max tapes so they will work in the Sony. It won't be the end of the world if I can't do it, but heck, it's worth a try! However, it is not worth losing data over.

Which OEM version of Veritas? Is it the Desktop or Server and Which VER#. Depending on which one, I can tell you how to format your tapes with new header files. Let me know.
