When I try to use a builder on a form control (such as combo box) by right clicking on the control and then clicking on builder I get the following message:

There are no registered builders of this type.

I am running VFP 7.0. Can anyone tell me what to do to correct this?

In all probability, you have not installed the complete VFP7. What you can do is to reinstall VFP7 with all options. This could help avoid any such surprises. ramani :-9

To add to Ramani's answer, make sure you run the VFPCLEAN.APP. While it's suggested to be run if you had any of the 7.0 BETAs installed, you should run it anyway just to make sure the Install "fixed" everything in the REGISTRY.

All my builders are on the system. When I do a dir *.app in the wizards subdirectory I get the following:

HI
Just check in the following place...
IN VFP7 menu items....
select tools ->options ->File Locations...
slide the bar down .. and see the WIZARDS...
if this is empty or pointing a different location... change it to
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual FoxPro 7\Wizards

This shall work :) ramani :-9

It already says that.

It is very likely that your builder.dbf and builder.fpt (located in the wizards directory) is corrupt. It is alos likely that your builder.app in the vfp7 directory is damaged.

I suggest, you replace these with the default ones and try your luck !. I am getting lost for any more reasons as of now :-(

Hope you sort this with this suggestion :) ramani :-9

I removed VFP7 completely and re-installed. Still have the problem.

Hi Mike,

I had this problem recently when I installed VFP5 on a new computer. I couldn't get to the Setup Wizard, receiving the "no registered builders..." message. I noticed that the other builders were similarly unavailable. I tried executing WZSETUP directly from its directory --- it worked, and the whole problem disappeared.

Jim

There is no WZSETUP in VFP7. Boy, Jim, you had me excited there for a moment.

Tried that already. It just runs a dialog to choose which wizard you want to run (Report, Form, etc.).

Have you ckecked the registry to see what sort of info it has about builders? Perhaps there's some problem there. Or could whatever sort of setup you have for your programs keep you from accessing where the builders are stored, regardless of where the tools/options/file locations says they are?

And what happens if you do choose one of those wizards? Does it still say it can't find the wizard?

Dave Dardinger

The wizards work fine. The problem comes in when I try to use a builder while designing forms. For instance, I want to use a builder to format a commandgroup, but I get the 'no registered builders' message.

1. hello... do you also have vfp6 or earlier version. is your path havng reference to these earlier to vfp7 in the path ?
2. Are you using any framework which has its own builder?
3. Have you tried creating a new trial project, add a trial form, a trial combo box and right click and try.. ?
This is puzling !!!!!

1. Yes, I have VFP6 loaded. It works fine. Everything points to the right places for it (_builder, etc.).

2. No, I am not using a framework.

3. Yes, I have tried creating a new trial project, etc.

Mike,
I just got a new system, and installed XP on it. Yesterday, I re-"installed" nine versions of FP, including VFP 7.0 and when I checked, I was getting your same message about the builders. However, following my own advice (see 3rd entry above), I ran:
DO (HOME()+"vfpclean.app")
[answer "Yes" - don't worry about all the verbage] and now all is well again.

Rick

I did what you advised, and I still get the same message.

Thanks to all who responded to my problem. I finally removed VFP6 and then did a repair of VFP7 and my problem is solved.
