One of our execs has the old Merlin Legend BIS-22D phones and his message light is stuck on. I tried using a programmed Feature button and hitting 54 to turn it off. I also tried hitting #54, *54, and so on. Still no luck. I can't recall how to turn his MWL off. Any suggestions :)

You should be able to turn it off by touching the message button.

I tried that since I saw the button next to the message light. It didn't do anything either...

Sounds like it is stuck - try unplugging the phone - and plugging it back in. What kind of telephone system is this is?

Legend r7.0 v14.2. I will try unplugging the phone for a minute right now. Thanks for the tip!

Oh - if it's a legend - press menu, maintenance, system, MW LP Update, Refresh MWL. Then - give it a few minutes. If that doesn't work, program a "Feature" button on the phone (slide T/P switch to P, press a blank button and dial *20. Put the T/P switch back in the middle. Now, press the Feature button and dial 54 to cancel the MWL.

Thanks for the tips guys. I will likely try unplugging the phone when I get back to the office tomorrow. There already is a Feature button programmed on the phone, but when I hit it and then dialed 54 the MWL stayed on and the LCD display said "Check VM >" on it. We'll see how things go. All other users have their MWL refreshing normally so I know it's not a system-wide issue. Back in the day I used to know all of the Monitor mode stuff and there's some command in there to directly perform actions on a phone such as turning off the MWL. But I never documented any of the commands and it's long since lost out of my memory banks :)

You can also leave a new message and deleting it. that should remove the MWL.

Just for some closure I fixed it by replacing the phone. This was the only phone experiencing the issue and manually clearing the MWL, leaving new messages, reseating the cable, etc. all didn't seem to work. But good thing I had a spare BIS-22 in the closet!
