I uninstalled Exchange 2003 from my system and tried to reinstall it. Now I get a permission error when I try to run either forest prep or the install.

Error:
The component "Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collarboration Services" could not be assigned the action install because:
- To install the first Exchange server in a domain, or to run setup in "/ForestPrep" mode, you must be an Exchange Full Administrator at the organizational level. You must use an account that has been granted the Full Exchange Administrator role on the Exchange organization using the Exchange Administrative Delegation Wizard.

I reinstalled the management tools so I could use the system manager. I went into the delegation wizard and made sure that the account I was using had full exchange administrator role selected. The account I am using is actually the domain admin account (domain\administrator).

It still gives me this error and prevents the install. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you uninstalled Exchange, and are installing back on the same machine, is there really a need to run forestprep again? Are you attempting to run it using an account that's a member of the schema admins group?

It gives me an error message that says I must run forestprep. I agree, I am not sure why I should have to but it is forcing me to. Yes I am using the domain admin account and it is a member of the schema admin group.

Thanks,

Shannan

Yes, I only have one domain here.

Thanks,

ok do you have the exchange fgroups in AD yet?
are have you ran forest and domain prep and then get the errors?

if you have the exchange domain servers group then add the exchange server as a member of the group

you dont normally have to do this though unless you are only using exchange in a child domain

Which groups are you talking about?

I can't run forest prep. When I do I receive the error.

The exchange server that I am trying to install on is in the

I added the server to the exchange domain server group but still get the error on forest prep or install.

Thanks,

Shannan
