Ok, I've set the time/date on my 2620 router, I've set the Time Zone, I've set the 'summer-time' and I've set the 'ntp server xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx'.

How do I force an update NOW and how do I set it up to update periodically, say, once a day? Also is there a way to check when it last sync'd, etc.?

Thanks!

Did you put the ntp client enable statement in your router ? You should not have to force an updaTE it will update itself within a couple of minutes if it is working ok . Do a show a ntp status and ntp associations to see what is going on .

The 'sh ntp stat' and 'sh ntp ass' work fine but 'ntp client enable' appears to be a Catalyst command and is unavailable on my 2620's IOS (12.2(15)T8).

When in Config Mode the only options I have for ntp are:
access-group
authenticate
authentication-key
broadcastdelay
clock-period
master
max-associations
peer
server
source
trusted-key

As mentioned above I have only set 'ntp server <address>' so far.

Any ideas?

Are you sure that the NTP server that you are trying to sync with will accept your request? (are you using a public server?)
sho ntp assoc should show something like this
address ref clock st when poll reach delay offset disp
*~18.26.4.105 .GPS. 1 362 1024 377 248.0 -115.5 114.9

list of time servers -

I am trying to sync to one of my own servers that is syncing with a strat 2 server. It's a Windows 2000 Server that I have an AIX server syncing off of with no problems.

'show ntp assoc' displays this:

rivstrt2620#sh ntp ass
address ref clock st when poll reach delay offset disp
~192.168.1.11 192.5.41.41 2 63 1024 377 34.4 -1644. 8.2
* master (synced), # master (unsynced), + selected, - candidate, ~ configured

I've setup the server with &quot;ntp server 192.168.1.11 prefer&quot; but I don't know if it's syncing. How can I test it? Is there a way to FORCE it to sync? Are there any other commands I need to enter besides the one stated above?

Thanks!

It will not work. The NTP server in Windows is very basic and will not work with routers. You can try this:

I've never tried it but have heard that it works with network devices such as routers and switches.

I can run an NTP daemon on AIX and sync to that. Do you think THAT would work? Just ANOTHER case where Micro$oft proves their worth(lessness)...

Thanks.
