force user insert data as the format

I have a field that must put data into a date field in a table. The user can put any characters and i want to force him to respect the date format.

Put the format mask you want to force into the Format Mask property of the item, in the Data section of the property palette.

I have a problem.Pls help me out

There is two tables a header and details .In datail,there is two dates
start_date and end date of data format.I set in such a way that both the
date automatically loads.In forms,only HH:MI is shows(format masked),if I change the HH:MI,
the date goes back to the first day of the current month .But I need the sysdate
and the time,that I changed. How can I solve this. ?.
Any Idea ?
