I have a dial-up connection. As part of the package from the internet prvider I get a program that will notify me when there is a call waiting and give me the chance to answer the call. Before I used Win 98se and had no problems, however on Win XP I find that the program isn't popping-up but rather it is going behind the other programs. I would like to know how to make the window pop-up. To the best of my knolege none of the other programs suffer this fate. The Folder that opens when I put in a CD or other removable device pops up and the Programs that launch from the Keyboard hot keys all popup. Any advice?

Thanks in advance

rather it is going behind the other programs", does this mean it is actually launching a window but it is underneath an already displayed window?

Does your program have any preferences that you can choose such as "Always on top"?

linney is right, you need to check in the program pref. for the "Always on top" option and check that.

To linney: When I'm online the service becomes active until I go offline. Now If I have ten browser windows open and am downloading something ( or even just one window) the notification prgram just opens behind them, the taskba doesn't even flash when it happens. I checked the program very well and couldn't find any mention to always on top. The program is very simple, it has only four windows, and only two tabs. Some of the preferences are even online line. I was hoping their was a way in windows to force the program to popup.

Thats all

TweakUI part of the Microsoft Powertools has a setting that stops programs from gaining focus. Are you using that at all?

Try a different Compatibility Mode, especially if the program has worked in another operating system for you.

Type - Getting older programs to run on Windows XP - in the Help and Support program for the basics. However not all old programs will work in XP no matter what compatibility mode you select. It does seem to be a matter of trial and error.

How to Use Windows Application Compatibility Mode.

Finally try the vendor, they may be patches for XP available.

Hello moldboy,

There is a tacit design policy/goal from xp to avoid as far as possible to allow an application "steal" focus from the others unless otherwise requested by the application. Some maybe you're out of luck here.
