From time to time, users of a certain Excel document on our server, leave it open which blocks others from making any changes to it (Read only).

Is there a way to close the open document, even without saving, if there is no activity from the person who opened it, say after 10 minutes or whatever time is appropriate?

Many thanks

I think the sollution we have is fine. The biggest and only issue here was the fact that someone kept leaving a particular spreadsheet open. The user only actually needs less than 30 seconds to update the xls file then it should be closed down. As some don't do this, now they will find it closes for them!

Thanks again guys

Keepingbusy, I might suggest giving stars to folks that helped you, as they have been very patient and extremly cooperative.

I totally agree with giving stars and I think you'll find if you check my questions posted on tek-tips I have awarded so many I've lost count. I appreciate your reminder I was just waiting for feedback from our users then I'll quite happily oblige.
