Force Diable unused TNs

I have many TNs configured on my system that I know do not have anything connected to them.

Q. How do I force dsbl these TNs so that they are easy to spot. I know there is usually something in the mdinight routine do this but it has been rempoved by an earlier techie.

I think it's either in the DROL or BKGD prompts in ld 17

I think that it would be that 32 would need to be included?

LD 30 will test your digital phones and disable the tn if nothing is pluged into it's associated jack.

in load 22 prt ovly.. drol needs 30 to auto disable during midnights.. you can change that in load 17 chg ovly and at the drol prompt enter 30... this is the load i run at midnight

43 is not necessary, the switch does a backup anyway during midnights, if their were any changes that day

I don't think there is a way to automaically detect the an analog device on the PBX. The way I cleaned up hundreds of analog TNs was to simply inform the company that we are going through an audit of modem/fax lines.

I requested that if people are actively using modems that they inform me via email. I kept a spreadsheet to track each TN. I already validated some of the TNs and at a certain date, I disabled any TN that was not accounted for. As people reported trouble, I turned their modem back on if they really needed it. In some cases, I was able to give them alternatives to using a modem. Most people didn't need analog lines anymore.

This process was ongoing for a few months but once it was over, I was able to free up hundreds of analog ports.

Fred is right on the analog sets. I had this issue once a long time ago and wrote a quick script in Procomm to dial an extension number from a text list I grabbed off the switch (every 500 DN) and ran it at night. If it go a modem signal, it would append a file with that extension number. If you do something like that (you may be able to get a similar script off the Aspect posts on Tek Tips) you will at least know what is actually connected to a modem or not. Hopefully you already have a list of fax machines.

your right on the analog sets, you can wire a jack in series the jumper and call the number, if a phone is plugged in on the other end, your test phone will ring. you can also use a analog meter, test for a short, then reverse and test again, the 1st test charges the ringer cap. the second test will see the cap discharge, making your meter look like a windshield wiper for one cycle per ringer. either test will take forever on a normal frame. calling every station will always produce trouble, either people don't answer of the phone is only used at night etc.. seems like analogs are a lost cause.. we have 300+ that can't be accounted for.. lots of tns to never get back

One thing I've done is check the Call Accounting System to see if there was a call made from the extension. If not then I disable it for about a month and if no one complains then I out it.
