Force Client agent updates

During a installation in our test environment, we noticed that enabling the Hardware Inventory Client Agent, Software Inventory Client Agent, Remote Tools Client Agent, etc, that even after the scheduled time we set for the inventory to take place, we did not get the client computers to make the C:\winnt\ms\sms\clicomp\hinv, sinv directories until we rebooted the client machines.
Is this something that is typical? If so, is there anyway to force these updates to occur?
We are running SMS 2.0, SP4 on SQL 2000 server, mixed mode authentication.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Please check, have you install client agent, before you reboot client?
the folder C:\winnt\ms\sms\clicomp\hinv it can be created automatically when you activate "client installation method"--->"windows networking logon client installation discovery"---->"modify user logon script",
client will install agent by logon to domain, because domain have creat script, please check in your domain netlogon, is there new script

Thanks for responding.

Actually, We are employing the Network Discovery method, as well as the Windows Remote Client Installation, so that the user does not need to login for SMS to discover the computer, nor to install the client. The client agent is installed before we rebooted the machines. That said however, clent agents did not inventory hardware, software and the like until we rebooted.
