Hmmmm... and to think I thought RPG meant Role Playing Game!

Too much 1st edition D&D in my youth obviously.

Heh, I keep thinking that every time I see this thread :)

Let me ask something altogether different about RPG....
I have nothing to do with it, but 3 of my fellow-workers have. I am using a Powerfull ETL tool to create interface files (semi-colon) seperated to consolidate and aggregate data into very specific fields for a forecasting system. I use a three-stage approach, 1 fetching operational data and filtering/aggregating, 2 adding dimensional data through joins and lookups and 3 merging data from different subsystems by union queries.
Management keeps popping up the question whether they should not create the files with RPG , even if this means not having the ability to write a flatfile to another NT server. In my opinion an ETL tool is much more suited, but people seem to think that RPG is the choice for any situation.............

Is the data all on AS400s? If so, RPG can build that data faster than standard SQL. Yes, it can (very easily in fact) write a cvs or other text formats for flat files. But, then agian, if there isn't any problems with it, why change it?

If you are talking multiple platform, you setup would probably be best.

This is my opinion. iSeriesCodePoet
