Fonts won't appear in character palette!!!

I have windows xp and illustrator cs2.
One day my fonts won't appear in the palette anymore.
I have reinstalled illustrator a ton of times. And they still wont appear.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem.

...try deleting the prefernces file to begin with:

Illustrator preferences are stored in the file Aiprefs. This file has no file extension, is a hidden file, and its location is dependent upon the operating system version.

Windows:

To locate the file from Windows Explorer it is necessary to set Explorer Folder options > View to "View Hidden Files and Folders"

Under Win XP and Win 2K, the file will be located in:

%systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\~username\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator[Version][Settings-(CS/CS2)].

Mac OSX:

Users>~username>Library>Preferences>Adobe Illustrator CS Settings>Adobe Illustrator Prefs

If manually deleting this file, ensure Illustrator is closed first.

With Illustrator CS, it is also possible to delete the preferences by holding down CTRL+ALT+SHIFT(Win)/Shift+Control+Option+Command(Mac) whilst starting the application and responding 'Yes' when prompted (but you do have to be really quick to do so - if the Splash screen displays, Illustrator has beaten you to it)

The Windows operating system has a font cache file that is located here:
C:\Windows\System32\FNTCACHE.DAT
Delete this file, and restart your system. A new FNTCACHE.DAT file will be created on startup.

...if you have a lot of fonts installed move some out of the fonts folder, having too many can cause issues...

...if you find fonts that are zero kb they are likely corrupted so delete these as corrupt fonts can cause havoc...

...if any of the standard fonts that are included with Windows XP are missing, you can run Windows XP Setup again. Setup replaces missing or changed files. If these standard fonts are missing, other Windows XP files may also be missing, and Setup corrects these problems...

Do not move these fonts as they are required:
