Fonts continually changing when composing

My wife's Oulook Express 6 is driving us BOTH crazy!!!
The font keeps changing. It will be ok for a few lines then change then change again and the cursor moves on its own and places itsel several characters ahead of the word being typed. I have set the font several times but it still continues to change. Any Ideas???

Thanks you but that isn't it. The font size is set to 14 and plain text is being used....Next?
