Font not showing up normally

Hi, I am using Corel Draw 8 and am also using The Bitstream Font Navigator. Here is the problem. When I am working on a project and I go to change my font and the font menu drops down,when I am scrolling through the fonts, some of the fonts are jumbled, meaning, instead of showing "The Quick Brown Fox" the letters are mushed together and it looks like a lump and when I choose it, it doesn't show up as text on my page, I am not sure what it looks like. In the font navigator, it shows it as installed. There are like 6 or 7 of these like this. Does anyone know what this means and how to fix it? Also, I opened Word 2000 and the same thing happens. One of the fonts was Cooper Bt Lt. I appreciate the help!

you didn't mention your OS.. also, do you have both T1 and TT/OT fonts with the same name installed at the same time?

Sorry about that, I am using win98se. What I did was I copied the fonts file from the Corel CD onto a folder on the desktop and then told font navigator to get the fonts from that folder.

well, you should not have put the fonts on a desktop folder but a folder somewhere else on the hard drive... you'll want to move that.

Unless you have ATM installed on a Win98 system, you won't have both types of fonts installed. You'll also want to check that you have not uninstalled system-specific fonts that should never be uninstalled.

Please explain what you mean by ATM? So I should create a new folder somewhere in C: and move the corel fonts there? I was thinking that maybe some of these fonts got corrupted. I was thinking of deleting the Font navigator file that had these fonts listed and then having it do a new search. Do you think that would work?

Thanks for the link, that information helped out alot! I didn't realize about the read-only. I am trying to understand the difference between the different fonts, like what is a post script font used for? Also, how do you know which font to use? T1 or TTF? Could you plese explain this? I am going to delete the folder on the desktop. My windows fonts folder only has fonts that were setup with Win98. I checked them against a Win98 fonts list so I know that is ok. I will also delete the Font Nav. file and then start all over. I really appreciate the info.

You're on 98, so unless you've installed ATM (Adobe Type Manager) you wouldn't be using T1 fonts. T1 aka PostScript Fonts are usually of higher quality than TT fonts. People doing professional graphics and DTP will use T1 fonts over TT fonts. Also, if you're sending anything out to printers, unless you convert your fonts to curves, the SB will want T1 fonts.

Thanks Javabear! I am using The Bitstream Fonts Navigator which came with the Corel Draw 8. When I start over, I guess I should just pull the ttf font folder from the Corel Cd to a folder in C:, right? Is it ok to also pull the Symbols and the Win95 folder off of the Cd too?

do you only have one HDD partition? If so, then you only have the one choice then If you have multiple HDD partitions/drives, personally, I'd put them where ever you have the most space. Symbol fonts are cool to put in there, too... just don't uninstall the core set of fonts the OS needs.

Hi,
A client submitted a CorelDraw 10 file. The particulars: 24 page, 4/4, 5.5 x 8.5. At work I use (among others) a PC operating XP Professional. I have dedicated about 68% of 256MB of RAM and am using two drives for SWOP or SCRATCH (if you will). This computer (node) is on an elaborate 1GB ETHERNET network using PC-MAC LAN software due to MACs being present (OS X). The PC box above has full-blown version of Acrobat 5.0 with Pitstop. To get on with this, I wrote a 734MB PS file over the network to the Job Ticket folder. Then transferred it to my usual workstation (A MAC) to a watched folder, distilling it using custom parameters for high-resolution print. Then took that PDF and placed it into the TrueFlow computer to plate system. Once the Postscript Level 3 RIPed this PDF into Imposition another PDF was created for proof. While viewing the proof I noticed all the black type was on all four plates!

So I went back to the Corel 10 file and meticulously went through every page with the Object Manager - found a few RBG paragraphs of text and possible three-pixel art (bitmapped-tiff) in RGB. Fixed those and went about getting a PDF a different way. I used the PPD from Acrobat and Distiller 5.0 (Extras Folder) when printing to the same job ticket folder (version 2). This process took over 2 hours -- too long -- I had to end my shift. So there is my dilemma. I don't know if a PS files was written or a PDF file was distilled from the PS file. I think this because of the length of time it was taking. What am I doing right or wrong? Can you help me?
