Hi..

Having a few issues with pagemaker 7.0.2.

In our DTP department in Melbourne, the three of us were upgraded to PageMaker 7.0.2. Since we have had this program we have had problems make PDF's and postscript files from PageMaker.

When we print to file to make the .ps, a message comes up saying it cannot embed the following fonts then it lists the font. The when we send the file to the distiller it PDF's fine without any error messages about embedding fonts, however the files will change the symbols (ie. ' - è ,) to something totally different or removing spaces and changing letters. The changes are so subtle that our jobs have been sent to the printers and the customer has complained and we have had to redo them at the cost to the company.

PageMaker will mix up symbols (changes ,:"()*& to smiley faces, horseshoes and other really strange icons).

We are using the same files we did for PageMaker 6.5 and 7.0.1 and we did not have this problem before getting 7.0.2. I have tried to contact adobe about this problem and look it up on the internet but haven't yet found any answers.

As this is the very last version of PageMaker to ever be made again, it's not these problems will be fixed in the next version. From here on Adobe is moving all PageMaker users to InDesign (All pagemaker files can open in indesign).

The other problem is, because we have saved all our files as PageMaker 7.0 files we cannot go back to using 6.5 because they will not open. Only PageMaker 7.0.1 and Indesign will open the files now. As a department we do not mind moving to Indesign but this would affect the other DTP departments around Australia

Can you please advise me on where or what our department should do from here or if there is a way of fixing the problem as PDFing files is something we all do about 10 times a day.

Thanks
Bruce.

Hi, Bruce from Melbourne!

Which version of Windows, Distiller and Postscript Driver are you using?

Also which PPD are you using?

> > we have saved all our files as PageMaker 7.0 files we cannot go back to using 6.5

Not quite true. If you rename the file FILNAME.P65, the chances are PM6.5 will open it. If you've used Data Merge or placed a Ver 1.5 PDF, a Photoshop *.PSD or Illustrator *.AI, there may be problems.

However I understand your problem.

> > message comes up saying it cannot embed the following fonts

Is that a licensing issue with the font?

Other options are:

1. that the text has imported from say Word and characters outside the first 255 have been used.

2. try changing the PPD - AD6PDF.PPD for Distiller 6, ADIST5.PPD for Distiller 5.

Have you tried running S4SP (Save for Service Provider) before starting Export… AdobePDF… to check for errors?

I have to say, I've not got PM7.0.2, and you are not the first to report this problem.

Have a look in AdobeForums PM Win - - but right now (10:50 a.m Victoria, Australia time 13th July 2004) AdobeForums is slower than frozen treacle.

>>> Which version of Windows, Distiller and Postscript Driver are you using?

Windows 2000 SP4, Finding out the other info from users (Im in the support team)

>>> Also which PPD are you using?
Finding out.

>>> Not quite true. If you rename the file FILNAME.P65, the chances are PM6.5 will open it. If you've used Data Merge or placed a Ver 1.5 PDF, a Photoshop *.PSD or Illustrator *.AI, there may be problems.

I have passed this information on.

>>> Is that a licensing issue with the font?

It worked in previous versions of Pagemaker. Just the upgrade from 7.0.1 to 7.0.2 (as I have been informed)

>>> I have to say, I've not got PM7.0.2, and you are not the first to report this problem.

I havent found much on the Web about it, this is really about all I've come across :(

>>> Have a look in AdobeForums PM Win -
Yes I tried that before here, couldnt even get it to load!

Much appreciate your help.
Take care
Bruce.

Hi,

> Just the upgrade from 7.0.1 to 7.0.2 (as I have been informed)

I'm hearing about this upgrade but can not find it on Adobe's site.

AFAIK, the only to get hold of PM7.0.2 is as the latest retail version.

The forums are working now. There was a "go slow" yesterday.
