This is a first for me.

One of the computers I support no longer shows the folders on the left ion windows explorer?? There is only a 'grey' area where the folders are supposed to be and the 'x' to close the pane. The only way to access the folders is to use the address bar (which is not user friendly)

I have gone through the menus but can not seem to see an option that would do or undo this; however it is entirely that i am skipping over the correct option having more or less memorized the menus over time.

Thanks in advance

Open up WINDOWS EXPLORER go to VIEW>EXPLORER BAR and check FOLDERS. If this does not help let me know. James Collins

I have tried your suggestion and it did nto work. By selecting or unselecting 'folders' the "gray" pane merely opens and closes, as clicking the folders button in the icon bar.

any other advise would be appreciated.

I had the exact same problem after installing SP3, IE6 and IE6 SP1 on my W2K system. The way i got IE6 to show the folders in explorer-bar was to start the system in safe mode which completed the IE6-Installation.
