Hi

I tried searching site and cannot find a solution to my problem. Whenever I attempt to open a mp4 files, all open folders close. I cannot delete, rename or play any of the mp4 files..... I scanned for viruses, adware and malware, using, Avast antivirus software, SpyBot, CCcleaner, and Super antiSpyware. All were updated versions. All found no problems......

I am running
Manufacturer: Dell XPS 710

CPU: Intel ® Core (TM) 2 Quad CPU @ 2.66GHz

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX

Operating System: XP Pro SP3

Antivirus Software: Avast

Firewall: Zone Alarm Pro

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated....

Thank you

What shows up in the 'Event Viewer' logs after you try to open an mp4 file? Right-click on 'My Computer' and select 'Manage' from the context menu. When the 'Computer Management' console opens, look under 'System Tools' and expand 'Event Viewer'. Look at the 'Application' and 'System' logs for any errors that occur around the time you try to open an mp4 file. If you see any errors copy and paste them back to the forum.

One thing I would do is to go ahead and check your Hard Drive for errors. Double-click on 'My Computer', right-click your Hard Disk Drive and select 'Properties' from the context menu. Select the 'Tools' tab and under 'Error-checking' select 'Check Now...'. Check off both boxes to fix file system errors and recover bad sectors. Click 'Start' to initialize the error checking. You will be prompted to schedule the error checking for the next time you restart your computer. Select yes and go ahead and restart your computer. Let the drive checking process complete and see if there are any errors reported and if they were able to be fixed. After running the disk check, see if the problem with opening mp4 files still occurs.

Uninstall the current version of AVS software that you are running. Then download and install the newest version available on their webpage.

Alternatively, try out a different piece of software for your video needs. If you are looking for free software for video converting and editing, here are some links you could browse.
